Redding And Brookes Confident Ahead Of Snetterton

The Be Wiser Ducati team heads for round six of the 2019 Bennetts British Superbike

Championship at Snetterton this weekend in confident mood following recent races which sees rider Scott Redding lead the series with team-mate Josh Brookes in third.

Having won eight of the last nine races between them for Paul Bird’s Penrith-based team, both four-times GP winner Redding, from Quedgeley in Gloucestershire, and Aussie Brookes, from Bringelly in New South Wales, are looking forward to the round that comprises the midway point in the 2019 season

Following a superb victory at Knockhill, Redding holds a four-point advantage over fellow Ducati rider Tommy Bridewell with Brookes just 27 points further adrift aboard the factory-supported Be Wiser Ducati Panigale V4 R. And whilst Redding will be making his debut at yet another British track, for Brookes the Norfolk circuit has proven to be a happy hunting ground in years gone by.

The three-mile ‘300’ track lends itself to great racing and over recent seasons, both the PBM team and Ducati have enjoyed some good results which included former rider Shane ‘Shakey’ Byrne winning eight of the previous nine races before his accident prior to the Snetterton round last year sidelined him.

Brookes, meanwhile, has scored a podium finish at least every year at Snetterton bar one since 2010, and that was the year he was away contesting the World Superbike Championship in 2016. However, it’s been ten years since he last won there so he’ll be keen to get back to winning ways after failing to make the podium at Knockhill.

Scott Redding:  “I did a few laps on a road bike a few weeks ago and I like the track and the layout which should suit both me and the bike so I’m excited to get going this weekend. Hopefully, we can have some good weather and I can get some decent track time to help me get up to speed quickly. It means nothing to be leading the series at this stage of the season, it’s all about picking up as many Podium Points as possible as that will be very important come the Showdown. The plan as always is to challenge for the podium and if the win is possible, then I’ll go for it.”

Josh Brookes:  “I want to immediately bounce back after Knockhill and put the disappointment of

not scoring a podium well and truly behind us. It wasn’t a disaster, but such is the expectation this year the results weren’t great so now I’m only focusing on this weekend. I think the track will suit the bike and I love the track, but we need to be continually improving the whole package. I’ve had some great results around Snetterton in the past and hope to add a couple more wins to my tally this weekend.”

Johnny Mowatt, Team Co-ordinator:  “Winning eight of the last nine races is fantastic for the team and just goes to show what a great package we have, but it does raise the pressure a little bit. Despite his lack of experience on the UK tracks, Scott is learning all the time and to win at Knockhill was something special and not many would have had him leading coming into the halfway point. Meanwhile, Josh’s record around Snetterton is very impressive with a podium every year he’s raced there so hopefully we can get both riders challenging for the victories to secure as many important Podium Points as possible.”

There is live action on television with Datatag Extreme Qualifying on Saturday and both of Sunday’s races screened live also on Eurosport between 13:00 and 18:00 with highlights throughout the week repeated on both Eurosport and ITV4.
